The King James Bible is the English translation of the Holy Bible, commissioned by King James I in 1604. The work was divided among forty-seven eminent scholars, who revised and retranslated the bible, which finally appeared in 1611. It replaced earlier translations and became the "authorized" version of English-speaking Protestants for 250 years. Its literary richness has profoundly influenced many authors, including William Wordsworth and Herman Melville, and continues to be held in high regard. It is the best-selling book of all time.
